daughter-in-law, at that time, often meant step-daughter

so daughter of Mary Eastwood from before she married William

Interesting that they then named their own child Mary after their marriage.

Here's Mary with her family. Her marriage was in 2nd quarter 1851 so would imagine she was the dairy maid. Who would Mary Salter, daughter in law be, I wonder.

The dates may be wrong.
I have a record of a Massachesuetts, marriage..Robert Salter to Ann Kendall

.From there to Sydney,Nova Scotia until their deaths,1922 &1923 .hoping to find where they lived in the UK and any descendants. I am not familiar with this site so please bare with me.The grooms parents on cert. William Salter and Mary Eastwood..brides William Kendall and Margaret Rogers .

I do note that Annie MARIE was the name of the daughter born in Ontario, and not the name of the woman that Robert Salter married

I think there is a bit of confusion there in the OP

I think this is their marriage:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FH4B-H4H

which makes the 1861 posted by Sylvia look like a very good possibility.

I wonder if Robert and Annie sort of drifted between Canada and the US eventually settling in NS in 1900 and so put that down as their year of immigration?
