The National Archives has record cards for POW's of the Japanese. Not online though - you would have to go there or get someone to go for you.

Just because it's not on ancestry doesn't mean it's not available!!!

Thank you MarieCeleste. I am glad I asked for help first before parting with any money, they gave the impression there would be much more information! Thank you for looking the record up for me it is much appreciated.

Thank you to every one for answering.

They make people think they have more than all the other sites.

Fine if they did, but with WW1 there is such limited records remaining they are conning people into thinking there is more that has been found!!!!

So very wrong.

If you cannot (or a helper) find it on Ancestry, Findmypast or the CWGC sites then that is it.

I think the Red Cross has or is releasing its war records, not too sure what they contain.

I agree MC - I took out a 1 month membership to look for something and there was hardly any info on anything I looked at - a total waste of money !

Also, the month has not yet finished so I looked on there for this query and it seems I have been 'cut off' as they were asking for payment again before I could see anything!

NOT recommended by me either!!

Looking further at Ancestry, they don't appear to include anything about Japanese POW's

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Aug 2014 09:20

I don't think POW records are very comprehensive.

Look at Ancestry, which is free this weekend

This is what they have for a distant relly in my tree.

MarieCeleste has a subscription for that site, and would probably do a lookup. If she doesn't see the thread I'll send her a PM later today.

Hi Jax

I found a website, forces-war-records.co.uk, that shows in a search they have the record, but it will cost me £8.95 to view it. I thought I would just put it out there to see if someone was already a member and could look it up for me before I register and pay for it.

I do not think you will find WW2 records online. you will need to send off for them cost about £30 I believe

Does anyone have membership to Forces War Records? I am looking for the record for Herbert Fennell who was held as a POW in Japan. I would be very grateful if someone could look his record up for me.

Herbert James Fennell born 9 March 1916 Islington. Parents Percy & Rosa Fennell.

Thank you
Trish
