I smell a breakthrough or two!

Many thanks to both of you.

Choccy: I don't have a sub to FMP and would love to see the records. If you have time to download them I would be very grateful!

Kind Regards

I am actually looking at this for a friend who has got stuck.

The family story is that Helen was born at Edinburgh Castle where her father was stationed with the Black Watch (??)

We can't find a marriage for a Mary to a Merriott/Marriott in Glastonbury, where Mary was born and returned to. Neither can we find a marriage of a Mary Merriott to James Vincent, although she is listed as his wife on census. The only marriage showing is a James Vincent to a Mary Cook in Glastonbury in 1834.

Helen & John are shown on different census' with James & Mary as Stepson and Stepdaughter.

I have a possible sighting of John (name spelt Marriott) on the 1841. He is aged 20 and a soldier at Winchester Barracks, Hampshire.

All ideas most welcome :-)

not seeing Helen

Christine

Christine Report 24 Aug 2014 22:15

I was hoping to find some clues to Helen & John's parentage in his army or pension records, although I am not holding my breath!

Christine

Christine Report 24 Aug 2014 22:10

No I'm afraid I don't know who he married. His mother was a Mary unknown who also had a daughter Helen Merriott bc 1828 in Edinburgh. No idea who the father is, but Mary subsequently married a James Vincent in Glastonbury.

Hi Folks

I have a John Merriott bc 1823 in Glastonbury, Somerset.

On the 1851 Census he is listed as a Chelsea Pensioner.

Does anyone know how I could go about finding any army or pension records for him please? I can't find a baptism either!

Regards
Christine
