The Canterbury Archives seem the best bet for his first marriage, the baptisms of both William and Mary and anything about their parents as well. Can you tell me what the story is about the records? Are they not even in the LDS records? Any chance that they will get online in the next few years?

Thank you so much for finding those records. It's great to discover Mary's maiden name, and evidence of the marriage. And who would have thought that Gipson could be transcribed as Popson!

Canterbury Cathedral Archives are closed at the moment for annual holidays, but my OH will look for the second marriage of William Gipson in 1872 when they re-open (the week after next), to see who William Gipson's father was.

I will then post on here and PM you.

Mary Gipson was buried on the 14th November 1871 at Herne Church (she was from Herne Bay at time of death)

I would guess at the marriage being in Selling unless Mary's family had already moved to Canterbury.

Please help me find the marriage record and birth or baptism records of my great great grandparents William and Mary Gipson. Below are the records I have so far. They seem to be a bit hazy about how old they are/what year they were born in the censuses. William between 1812 and 1819 in Canterbury, Kent, and Mary (unknown maiden name) around 1809 in Selling, Kent. Marriage year probably 1830-1837, probably somewhere around Canterbury or Selling.
