ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

ken Report 20 Aug 2014 11:03

Thomas E Cooke was born 6-8-1913, according to his death index.
A GRO consular birth index shows he was born in SMYRNA Turkey.
A passenger listing dated 1959 shows his wife, son & possibly mother travelling from London en-route to Turkey. His wife is Ruth Janet Kench & they married in 1946 in Wycombe, Bucks
I am having problems in locating the parents of Thomas E(ric) Cooke, can anyone help?

His marriage certificate will name his father if known.

You should be able to get a copy of the birth cert, by applying to the GRO quoting the details you have found

Welcome to the boards Ken.

You would have to purchase the birth certificate to find his parent's names. If you have the GRO index you can order from the GRO at:-

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Certificates cost £9.25.

Make sure you click on "overseas births".

His birth certificate should be available through GRO, it will name his mother and may name his father. The marriage certificate will name his father if known.

www.gro.gov.uk

Certificates cost £9.25, don't try and get them from anywhere else as you will pay for the pleasure!

Is there no way of finding parents another way? Certificates are expensive.
Are there passenger listings for ships into the UK. Thomas was born in Turkey in 1913 & in 1959 he was travelling back to Turkey. He must have traveled back to the UK between those dates & and after as he died in the UK.

Regarding the surname of Ruth Janet Kench. The surname spelling is correct and mis-spelt on the indexes.
