MR. P. WHETTON. The funeral of Mr. Percy Whetton, who was fatally burned in a fire at the Mascot Aero- drome on Sunday, took place at the Randwick General Cemetery yesterday afternoon.
Therewas a large and representative gathering. Mr. Whetton, who was 42 years of age, was an employee of the Vacuum Oil Co., and was engaged in refuelling aeroplanes at Mascot.
He was an original Anzac, having enlisted in August, 1914, with the First Australian Field Ambulance. He also saw service in France until the Armistice, and was mentioned in despatches.
On his return to Sydney he took over the management of the Ambulance Kiosk at the Coast Hospital. Mr. Whetton resided at Maroubra, where he was well known.
He was Master of Lodge Lillyville, Maroubra. He is survived by a widow and two children, and his mother, a brother, and a sister.
There was a Masonic service at the grave- side in addition to the usual service. About 200 masons attended. Three aeroplanes circled overhead during the ceremony, and a wreath was dropped from one of them.
Among the many beautiful wreaths were those from the 1st Field Ambulance Digger Cobbers, Vacuum Oil Company (Glebe Island em- ployees), directors and staff of Adastra Air- ways, Ltd., executive and staff of the Vacuum Oil Co., employees of the Vacuum Oil Co., the Atlantic Union Oil Co., management of the Shell Co., Australian National Airways, man- agement and members of staff of de Havilland Aircraft Pty., Ltd., employees of the Shell Co., Texas Oil Company, employees of T. Elliott and Co., Mascot Aerodrome, "The boys of the 'Drome," past masters, officers, and brethren of Lodge Lillyville, wor. master, officers, and brethren of Lodge Kensington Lewis, officers and companions of Maroubra Royal Arch Chapter, officers and brethren of Lodge Kensington, and wor. master and brethren Lodge Long Bay.
Not sure if the above is your man?
