I am torn between putting this on here or living relatives.

My husband's great grandfather was married twice. My husband is descended from the second marriage but I would like to track the children of the first marriage.

John James Mead married Esther May Hopkins in Newport in 1918.

They had sons George J,A, (guessing James) born 1919 and twins Stanley and William born 27 March 1922 (from William's death) and then a daughter Rhoda M.L. born and died 1925. I think Esther died giving birth

I think George married Florence Maud Williams.

Any speculative punts welcomed!

Jude

That Hereford marriage is almost certainly the one although I believe it was in Ross-on-Wye so probably nearer to Newport than it is to Hereford!

Have received the death certificate of Florence Maud which confirms her maiden name and the full name of her husband who was still living when she died in 2002.

Informant was a son...so going to have a play with this but, as they are living, will not post here.

And now I have another son's marriage from the address of the father...so it seems that they din't lose contact! But whether they lived with him or not I do not know! But as I can't find a death for George or Stanley I won't post publically - if anyone finds anything can you PM me please?

OK, still not found a death for Stanley A but.....he and Elsie May Morgan married in March 1946.

In 1945 he was living with his grandmother in Newport. Can't see him in 1946. And then from 1947 to 1963 (when his grandmother Mary dies) he is living with her...minus wife.

She dies in 1967. The executor of her will is (as far as I can see) not a relative. The address given on her probate is the address of the executor. And today I checked the ER for 1967 and she is listed at that address in her maiden name (probate in her married name)

Can anyone find a divorce for me?

did you notice that there is a birth to Stanley's marriage also registered in a different surname?

search at Freebmd for the Mead-Morgan name combination and then click on the page number

might that possibly connect with the executor's name?

oh no, sadly an infant death under the alternative surname

however there is another birth there, same surnames, a year later ... but a 1942 marriage could account for that one ...

(or the previous birth could be a big coincidence, two births on the same page with same given name and initial and same mother's surname, and different surnames ... in which case the Mead child would have survived ...)

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 23 Jan 2015 20:13

mmm Joonie... not sure ...

executor was a Pollard before marriage to a Howells....

the birth is still possibly interesting though ... the certificate might give a name that could be useful

the executor (a contemporary of Elsie possibly best childhood friend?) had a number of children who would likely have known Elsie when they were young ... an Ancestry user has added a comment to one of their births just last summer ... could be a quick and easy way to make contact with family

JoonieCloonie Report 23 Jan 2015 21:54

why do we never think to look in Scotland ?? second one in two days ... not to mention my own ancestor who was awol for years until somebody looked in Scotland :-)

no Stanley Mead was born or married in Scotland, so that looks promising

the one thing I've wondered about is the 'Stanley A' ... he was plain Stanley at birth and when he married

No shortage of Stanley Meads :-)

perhaps more likely for the Blackburn death

Stanley A has come off the electoral rolls. Between 1939 and 1940 he was a seaman with P&O

I may have a play with the executor....

There is also a 2011 death in Birmingham; it's an all too common name!

Not the Scotland one in 1994 - Gerald Stanley aged 85
