So the 1901 census was taken just 2 weeks before his 3rd birthday. It was taken 31 March. |

One thing to remember is that many people calculate a person's birth year by subtracting the age from the census year. In your case Arthur was 2 in 1901 so you calculated birth year as 1899. This doesn't take into account the fact that the census was taken so early in the year before most people had had their birthday. Thus the birth year was usually the year before what was calculated. |

To each and everyone who took the time and trouble to respond to my question, my sincere thanks for your efforts. In was not aware that Arthur's middle name was William but from the details supplied it is the correct Arthur as I have my own knowledge of the address in Flitwick. Another mystery concerning Arthur, and possibly other of his brothers, is that his Father does not show as part of the family on the 1911 census. However his father is on the 1911 but living in Mill Road Luton, not with his wife. I do not suppose the reasons for this will ever be known. |
