Hello again Helen.The Malcolm Roderic Mathews who passed away last year is most likely to be descended from Harold Schuyler Mathews who arrived in USA about 1850.The funeral parlour said he had three sons. One of them is a doctor and I have e-mailed his practice but had no reply.There was no address for the other two.I tried again to find Roderic b.1833 but he seems to have escaped the system.He may have been deported to Australia for theft!!! Perhaps somebody out there knows where he went.

Dinner was fine- thankyou George. I do hope they make contact.

I just wish we knew what happened to Harold's brother, Roderic Malcolm Chalmers Mathews, after he joined the merchant navy. There could be many more descendants from his line.

Preston Chronicle 31 January 1846
Roderic Malcolm Chalmers Mathews, a boy twelve years old, pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of books and other articles, the property of Mr Birch, bookseller. He was sentenced to one months imprisonment.

Thanks for the assistance in locating the modern day relatives of George Jebb Mathews and his son Harold Schuyler.I have sent them a message to make contact with me if they wish.Sadly the oldest relative passed away this year aged 90.I Should have asked for help sooner. Edit: I wonder if this is the Mary that gave the book to George? and she has the school connection

Hold on Rose- another note from George, he forgot to mention:

"I have found the family history up to the time Harold emigrated.He also had a brother Roderic Malcolm Chalmers Mathews b.1833 At the age of 12 he was in Court for theft.I can find no record of him and wonder if he went with his brother to USA."

So there is another brother Roderic Malcolm - which ties in with the name of James' son.

Unfortunately I can only see the two children to George Jebb , and Thomas Quill died at age 6, so it will need to be the descendants of Harold,

Message from George:

"Hello Helen,2 years ago my 95 years old uncle passed away. He had given me a book of the works of Virgil.A name at the front was written.George Jebb Mathews of Blackrod given by him to Mary Ann Mathews of Blackrod.I couldn't find any family connection but my uncle was born near Blackrod.George's parents fr Liverpool are buried at Blackrod with one George' children.The book is dated 1811 and I found out George was a well educated teacher in the local schools but he died age 42 in 1834.The book will be of interest to his family if I find them."

So I think George is looking for Descendants of George Jebb Mathews so he can show them the book he has.
