I am looking for information on my grandmother, Charlotte Cornock ,1818 to 1890. daughter of Thomas and Ann Cornock (nee Iles) She was born in Gloucestershire and died in Deptford, Kent. I cannot find where she was buried. If she was married, who was her husband?

The Charlotte Cornock who died in 1890 was a Widow, so would not be your grandmother, if she was born Cornock.

Hello Kath,

If she was born a Cornock and died with the surname Cornock it is likely she didn't marry. Does your Mum/ Dad have a father listed on her/ his birth or marriage certificate?

edit: dates don't seem right for Grandmother- perhaps you meant Great Grandmother?

Hello Chris,
Thanks for your message. Charlotte Cornock as far as I can find out was never married but she did have an illegitimate son - George, with whome she was living when she died in 1890. My grandmother was Eleanor Jane, also illegitimate as far as I can find, but who her parents were, I do not know, she was brought up by her grandparents, Thomas and Ann Cornock of Slimbridge. as a grand daughter. I can find no registration or christening for Eleanor Jane , born about 1847 in Bangor, and presumably her mother was one of Thomas and Annes 4 daughters. A real mystery, a saga of half truths end cover ups!

Hi Kath,

You seem to already have few threads relating to Charlotte, it might be easier to continue the search using one of those.

At the moment I can't see any reference to Charlotte being the daughter of Thomas and Ann- do you have a baptism entry for her?

Hello Rootgatherer- I see that Eleanor Cornock is the daughter (or grandaughter/ relation) of Thomas Cornock, but I can't see any reference to a Charlotte being Thomas's daughter. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Well found Helen. That's what I was looking for. Just wanted to check that she wasn't a daughter in law of Thomas and Ann.

Like Kath says there isn't any evidence that Eleanor Jane was Charlotte's daughter. On the 1841 census for Thomas and Ann Cornock they have an Ellen Lloyd (relative) living with them- this could be the Eleanor Jane in later census records. Thus meaning that Eleanor could be a grandaughter/ niece/ cousin etc of Thomas and Ann.

yewtree

yewtree Report 9 Aug 2014 05:09

Yes, I have estimated that Ellen J.Lloyd is the same person in 1he 1851 census as Eleanor Jane Cornock in later census reports. and she is the daughter of one of Thomas and Anne Cornocks 4 daughters, but which one is the question???

Thanks for all the help, it is very much appreciated.

A tree on Ancestry has Ellen Lloyd as the daughter of William Lloyd and Eleanor Cornock (1820 - 1847)

Ellen Lloyd-Cornock

Death 21 MAY 1929 in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom

Spouse Emmanuel Hobbs

Thanks for the message, My Gran, known as Eleanor Jane Hobbs/Hurd/Cornock/Lloyd, was on the 1851 census for Slimbridge as Ellen J.Lloyd a relative of Thomas and Ann Cornock and aged 3yrs, which makes 1846 a bit too early, Her aunt Eleanor (nee Cornock)died in Jan 1847 after giving birth to a son, Gran's father could well be a William Lloyd.
So many conflicting ideas, it is a puzzle trying to sort them all out.
