Looking for any info on the history of Fairmeade,726 Old Norwich Road, Ipswich.
Searching for a good friend (the current resident) who would like to know about it's past residents.
Built early 19th century, I have tried an address search on 1911 census with no results.
Any advice on where to look much appreciated.

the deeds of the house will name its previous owners

It's likely that the name of the road, at least, has been changed.

the fact that it is currently 'OLD' suggests that at one time it was simply Norwich road

Yes it was Norwich road, which i have searched with no luck and the deeds are not available to view.
Thanks for your reply

As it's a listed building, maybe try asking these people for any information??

Have you looked for it on earlier censuses?

I feel really stupid asking this and must have been missing a great opportunity for many years but how do you search a census address on Genes? I have minimum subscription and pay for credits when needed.

Fairmead is in the Whitton district of Ipswich, which used to be a separate village.

In 1891 George Horsfield lived in Whitton Street, and in brackets (Fairmead):

1891 England Census about George W Horsfield

By 1901 he'd moved to Whitton Lodge, now another listed building.

In 1881, although there are lots of people listed living in Whitton Street, there's no specific mention of Fairmead. Perhaps it hadn't been built at that time.

These don't tell you about the residents, but do tell some of the history.

Nicola

to answer your other question

I do not know if you can search the censuses on GR by address, as I do not use the records on this site.

You do need to have the more expensive subscription than the Standard in order to view records on here.

I use ancestry.co.uk

other people use findmypast

and we can search on those sites by address, some censuses being easier than others to search by address.
