Can anyone find this family in 1841? UPDATED

I have tried every permutation of this name and cannot locate this family

James McGrath (bc 1816) and Grizel/Grisella Walsh( bc1820)
I don't know if they are Irish or Scottish and I cannot locate a marriage?

Above couple ( named in full) had 2 children baptised in Glasgow
Patrick McGrath b 1841 ( St Andrews) and Elizabeth McGrath b 1843 ( St Mary's) are found on the Catholic Registers.

I cannot find any record of their older daughter Margaret McGrath born circa 1839.
Margaret was definitely the daughter of James McGrath ( above) but I am not sure yet if Grizel/Grisella was also her mother.
The baptisms of the other two younger children would suggest that the family SHOULD be in Glasgow/Scotland at 1841, possibly even 1851.

Unless there are more children, I don't need any info on this family from 1856 onwards.

Other than daughter Elizabeth, all of above died in Derry and I already have all the relevant documentation.
Grisella McGrath died in Derry 1876 aged recorded as 53yrs... no parents listed.
James McGrath remarried in 1878 and died in Derry 1884... father named as Patrick McGrath (farmer)

Daughter Margaret was my great-great grandmother. She died in Derry 1867

(EDIT: Patrick McGrath was born and baptised in FEB 1841 which is why I think the family should be in Glasgow on census night)

Safc.
I did see that one already and I too wondered if that was the same Patrick McGrath at 1851.
Margaret married in Derry in 1857 followed by her sister Elizabeth in 1870.

Their father remarried a much younger woman in 1876 and he had another son born in 1877.
The child was called James Patrick McGrath who died at 20 yrs of age.

My next port of call will be to find out more about the Edward McGrath from the 1841 return.

With your fantastic find, I located the same 1841 census on Ancestry.
James 's occupation was "dealer"
In Derry, he owned a pub, and is described as a "spirit merchant"

The McGrath's have been my biggest challenge since I started family research.
Every couple of years, something new materialises and I'm back on track!

Thanks
Anne

EDIT:
I assume that you found the 1841 census on FMP?
Margaret is recorded as 14 on the Ancestry version.
I will obtain the original to see how she is recorded

Safc,
I forgot to say that although I did wonder about the 10 yr old Patrick in the Cathoic Orphanage at 1851, the father, James McGrath was a wealthy man ( at least he was when he died)
Why would his son be in a home?

Rather than start another thread, I assume that I can continue here?
This is the link posted by Safc and Dea above.
(I have removed my answered thread containing my thanks)
I am now looking at 20yr old Edward from this return

*****Edward McGragth Male 20 1821 Ireland .

An Edward McGrath fitting the description married Isabella Mackey.
All their children were born in Derry ( which I fully expected!) between 1847 and 1865 and the family moved to Liverpool where they can be followed from 1871 onwards

This same Edward McGrath died in Liverpool in 1903
England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index, 1837-1915 about Edward McGrath
Name: Edward McGrath
Estimated birth year: abt 1824
Registration Year: 1903
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Age at Death: 79
Registration district: West Derby
Parishes for this Registration District: View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District
Inferred County: Lancashire

If I obtained a copy of this DC, can anyone tell me what info it may contain?
I fully expect his father was a farmer called Peter McGrath, but would it give a mother's name?

( At this stage, I dont require any additional info on this family)

Thankies
Anne

Sorry, GlasgowLass, an English death cert will contain very little family info (no parents' names as a Scottish one would.). It will give date, place and cause of death and the name of the informant, who may or may not be a family member.

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 10 Aug 2014 15:29

Thanks Potty,
I was afraid that may be the case.
He had a catholic burial, but there is no further info on that either!

Sometimes, we know instinctvely, that things are right, but still need that wee bit of proof and I doubt that I will get it... LOL
