Looking again at the 1911, following the sheet with Rose May on is the cover page for her and that has the Head of Household's name. I think it is Mr H Telford rather than M H - look at the position of the dots - the one after the M (which has little curl at the top) is high up, the one after the H is on the line There also appears to be another family, the Queenalls, living at the same address.

Unfortunately there is no image to check for a mis-transcription but this is the GRO reference for the marriage and you could buy the marriage cert, which should also give you the father's occupation which would help to identify the family on any census:

Sorry for not responding sooner, but was out all day yesterday. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information you've given me regarding my grandfather (who died a few months after I was born), and thank you very much. You asked some questions and these are the answers as far as I can.

I found the name Shatford on the "index" (is that what it's called?) of marriage, so assume the recorder missread Shadforth. However, this means no occupation given for him.

From family stories my grandfather came from Aberdeen. A large house with servants on the ground floor, family on the 1st and remaining floors with no electricity in the upper floors. For example, while having dinner once evening, news came of the eldest (?) son's death in WW1, and other stories. Perhaps that is all they were - stories?!!! But I do know he was a Mason, would that help at all in my researches?

I didn't know that after marriage my grandparents briefly went to live in Sunderland and then came back to Wandsworth (is that near Wimbledon - my mother want to the Sacred Heart Convent Catholic School there, although Henry was a Quaker, and my grandmother Protestant!!). However, I found that my mother - christened Betty May - was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1913.

I've only just started on this quest especially with Genes Reunited (my main Tree so far discovered is still on another site dedicated to search for one's ancestry) and I don't fully understand the technicalities of using this Web Site yet nor the words used, and I'm not very technically minded which doesn't help! However I'll try to follow up on what you have so generously researched on my behalf.

Oh that's interesting , just thought to look at the schedule page following Rose May Telford image 1911, it has the name M H Telford. So looks poss the Matthew Henry Telford from the 1881?

It appears Rose May was back down south for the birth of chilld in 1913 so presumable Harry was with her , they both appear together on the 1918 electoral roll for Wandsworth.

Still can't see him in 1911 though.

I'm trying to research my grandfather's line - Henry (Harry) Telford b.1877 in Aberdeen, Scotland; married Rose May Riddle in Royston Hertfordshire on 20 Oct 1910; d.1941 in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. His father - Thomas Shatford Telford (on Harry's marriage certificate) . The new Scottish Census seems to think neither of them ever existed!
