There is a tree on Ancestry for the William Henry Walker who married Mary Ellen Peden - it has a photo of him in Army uniform. If you don't have Ancestry, you should be able to access the tree on the Mundia site.

Thanks a million for your help and directions. I have asked my friend to get her grandfathers birth certificate which will put a bit more light on the subject.

I can't make out her fathers occupation, but husband is a carter and his father also. Both their addresses given as 16a Netherfields road. Neither married before, and witnesses John Whittaker and Mary Ellen Pedan.
