I am trying to trace Christopher Smith possibly in Canada . He was on the 1891 census in England and that was the last.. he is the son of Alexander Smith and Jane Foster. I have a possible listing for him traveling to Montreal Canada on 5th May 1892. this has not been confirmed. I have checked a few census but not knowing where to look has turned up nothing . Whether he married and had a family that is not known either.
Any info on Christopher would be appreciated as trying to find any living relatives he may have there today as he has family in New Zealand who would be interested to make contact.
Cheers
Margaret

Well this makes it a different story now . The family have the wrong brother going to Canada. One did die in a work house and one went to canada so it looks like the half brother Thomas Smith b 1875 in Hunstanworth was the one not Christopher. Thomas took on his step Fathers surname of Jeffrey. in 1891 as thats what he is on the census . Does it show when Christopher Smith Died.? I would think not a long life as he was the alcoholic.
Thank you for steering me on the right track .

The info was from the 1911 census. Searching the FreeBMD Index there is this death in 1927 in the same Reg District as he was living in 1911, but Smith is a really common name

Christopher Smith 63 Mar Qtr 1927 in Lanchester Reg District Volume: 10a Page: 512

thanks Ann for all your info it is appreciated.
With Smith being such a common name it has not been the easiest family to find.
Now the question is which one stayed and which one went ....will we ever know
as have both staying in the Uk and one showing up going to Canada . I like the word Married for Christopher in Canada so will go down that track I think and see where it leads.

Kind regards
Margaret
