It's looking like there is some merit to Jane & Mr Atkinson! I would definitely discard that 1863 marriage Mark.

Armistead Elizabeth Kendal 25 539

I know there were various Elizabeth Atkinsons born in Kendal district (which includes Kirkby Lonsdale) around that time, but if there's doubt about whether Jane was married or not, and to whom, then maybe Elizabeth was registered as Armistead?

Re the 1871 census posted by Shirley above, showing Elizabeth as married -
I think that's a mistake on the enumerator's part.

Elizabeth was listed originally as Daughter, and I think the enumerator has assumed she was married because she had a different surname. "Step" has been added later.

It's a pity you've clicked "Mark as answered", Mark - unless you are satisfied that your query has been answered.
That 's what it's supposed to mean - and not just that you have posted a reply on the thread.
It's a bad feature of GR, and unfortunately, once clicked, it can't be unclicked.

If you feel we haven't answered everything you want to know about Elizabeth, you should edit the title of the thread, to add "Not answered" or words to that effect.
