There is a tree with wonderful photos of Peter and Margaret, also of some of Peter and Marjory Campbell's children.

Peter Smith
Birth May 1854 in St. Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland Born either 3 or 19 May 1854
Death 2 Oct.1934 in #1 Morgan St.,St. Andrews, Dundee, Scotland

Yes, he was a widower on his marriage cert when he married Margaret.

alviegal Report 3 Jul 2014 21:56

Was he married twice? He didn't marry Margaret until 1889 but he had children before then.

This may be him.

Lovely lovely lovely. Thank you so much. Ive now sent an email to Dundee Cemetaries asking for the graves location. We were aware that Florence had a twin (she died aged 4 months) but we never knew her name so that's great.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Jul 2014 22:41

Aha! found the marriage!

He's down as Pete, which SP apparently doesn't recognise as a variant of Peter:

1889 SMITH PETE LESLIE MARGARET KELLY ST NICHOLAS ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/01 0221

He was 35 at marriage, so born 1854, as the Ancestry tree says, therefore death No. 4, posted by Jude is the correct one - age 80 - also as per the Ancestry tree.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Jul 2014 22:34

However, the daughter Florence's birth cert agrees with that Ancestry tree, though not mentioning the name Kelly:

1898 SMITH FLORENCE F ST ANDREW (DUNDEE) DUNDEE CITY/ANGUS 282/04 0526

Born April 3rd, 1898, 3.25pm, at 11 Robertson Street, Dundee.
Father: Peter Smith, boot closer.
Mother: Margaret Smith ms Leslie.
Parents' marriage: 15 June 1889, Aberdeen.

Florence was a twin. Alice Smith, same parents, was born same day, 3.35pm.

Alice's death??
1898 SMITH ALICE F 0 ST ANDREW (DUNDEE) DUNDEE CITY/ANGUS 282/04 0751

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Jul 2014 22:08

I can't see that 1889 marriage on ScotlandsPeople.
Seven Peter Smiths married in Scotland in 1889, but none of the brides was a Leslie/Lesley, though 3 were Margarets.

This is the only Peter Smith/Margaret Leslie or Lesley marriage which comes up:

1880 SMITH PETER LESLIE MARGARET BRIDGETON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/01 0250

Wow. Thank you so much for that. My relative is the son of Florence Smith who bizarrely died 31 years ago to the day. I will have a look on Ancestry to see if I can find the family who have Peter Smith in it - it may be a distant relative in Canada.

Once again, thank you so much. It has made our day! :-D

Ooh many thanks for that. Peter Smith died when my relative was very young and my relative was born in 1928 so I can only guess that it may be numbers 2,3,4 or, at a push, 9. Ive just been told told that he was a shoemaker in Dura Street, Dundee if that helps anyone.

The Margaret Kelly isnt ringing a bell unfortunately..

hello. I am currently on hol in Scotland and an elderly relative has asked me to find the location of a gravestone for Eastern Cemetery in Dundee. However, I don't have much information to give to the Cemeteries Dept and wonder if someone could possibly do a lookup for me? His name was Peter Smith (huge groan!) who died c1930 (ish). He was possibly in his sixties. He originated from Old Machar in Aberdeen. His second wife was Margaret Lesley who possibly died first. He was probably Church of Scotland. Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.
