Ian, have you looked for the equivalent of the phone book in Canada?

Ian

Thanks Marie, I would not include them in my tree but am tracing hopefully some living relatives that could prove some interesting links to my fathers stay in Canada. I have found one person with the same spelling but unfortunately they have not replied so was trying to establish some general background info before chasing that avenue further.

No it doesn't Ian! But having said that, if you're looking for fairly recent births then if the people are still living their permission should be sought before they are included in a tree. If they're able to be contacted then just as easy to ask for family details.

Thanks Marie, that makes sense - does not make life easy for family historians!

thanks Ann, we are out there but very hard to find, took me ages to realise that I had a living relative less than 10 miles from my house!

Hello Ian, Canada has very strict privacy laws and there are virtually no birth records on-line that are less than 100 years old (it's around 80 years for marriages and 50 years for deaths).

There are some slight variations by different states but those timescales are the general guideline.

Hi, if anyone has access to Canadian birth records I would greatly appreciate a search for any births after 1940 - present (near as possible) for the surname HUMPHERYES - exact spelling only. It would help to close a few stray ends in our family history research, many thanks Ian
