Couldn't find the 1851 posted by Gillian.

Ancestry only shows Ann Sandford (wife) in 1851, not Samuel, and there's no sign of him on the image either:

Hi, Gillian -
I've already posted what is probably Ann's death - so she's not in any census after 1851.

EDIT: Or maybe it's not her - see later post!

Just spotted Annes death - many thanks...

Do we know if Anne & Samuel had any children? I believe that they married in 1837.

Re Ann's supposed death:

there's also this birth, same year and qr:

Births Sep 1857 (>99%)
Sandford Ann Maria Gloucester 6a 197

Two possibilities:
1. this is an infant who died shortly after birth, and not your Ann.
or
2. Ann died in childbirth.

But then there's no sign of the child with Samuel in 1861.

In 1861 Samuel is listed as married, not widowed.
In 1871 I can't decipher whether he's listed as widowed or unmarried.
But the 1857 death is the only Ann Sanford/Sandford death in Gloucester reg district 1837 - 1881

Gillian

Gillian Report 20 Jun 2014 13:16

This may not be Annes child - but another relative perhaps?

Births Sep 1857 (>99%)
Sandford Ann Maria Gloucester 6a 197

Deaths Sep 1857 (>99%)
Sandford Ann Maria Gloucester 6a 134

In any case - Its probably fair to assume that it is NOT Anne Sanford ( nee Nash)....so where is she in 1861?

Gillian

Gillian Report 20 Jun 2014 13:24

Just realised - we have Ann Sanford in 1851 as wife ( on her own)

Where is Samuel Sanford in 1851 please?

ArgyllGran Report 20 Jun 2014 13:29

This is presumably Ann's baptism - no middle name, at least not on the transcription:

Name: Ann Nash
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 11 Jan 1818

Gillian

Is it possible to find Samuel Sanford in 1851 please?

Many thanks

The 1851 showing Ann Sanford as wife is the first entry at the top of the page.
The previous page where you would expect to find husband listed has a blank space at the base of the page.
If Ann was a sole occupant she would surely have been recorded where the blank space is at the bottom of the page and been entered as HEAD not wife..

Has Samuel been erased, entry faded away or simply missed off ?
