Peter .
Have sent you a PM with some Egan Burials in Aghamore and Kilkelly .
I don't know if they are of use as you don't give details of Catherine/family....

Just saw this, thanks Kucinta. Shame there doesn't seem to be a searchable name database for Irish deaths at this point. And yes Reggie - 90% confident that there will be a will. Or if not, an administration.

Any reason to assume she actually left a Will?

http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/wills-testamentary-records/

"Before a will can take effect, a grant of probate must be made by a court. If someone dies without having made a will, the court can grant letters of administration for the disposal of the estate. Since 1858, grants of probate and administration have been made in the Principal and District Registries of the Probate Court (before 1877) or the High Court (after 1877). They are indexed in the calendars of wills and administrations and one or two volumes per year in addition to a consolidated index for the period 1858–1877, are available to consult in the Reading Room. Up to 1917, the calendars cover the whole of Ireland but since 1918, they cover only the 26 counties in the Republic and the testamentary calendars which are available in our Reading Room can be searched online for the years 1858-1920 and 1922-1982. Indexes covering the six counties of Northern Ireland since 1918 are in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI)."

You can search the index year by year as pdf files

Don't know if that helps.

The entries for the '60s give name of deceased, address, date of death, grant (of probate) date, grantee, amount of assets.

You can check the years from 1961 up to 1982.

I'm looking for a probate for a Catherine Egan who died AFTER 1961 in County Mayo, Ireland, near Killkelly.

A date at death would help but how could I find a will?

Best wishes,

Peter
