A link on the National Archive site leads you here

If you can't find what you want, you could use the 'contact us' link at the top of the page to ask if they will search the indexes for you. There may be a charge.

Jerseylily used to do Jersey look-ups. You could try sending her a message be clicking on her name on the following thread, to ask if she can still help

Because Christine has "marked as answered".........Jerseylily might not check out this thread even if she spots it on here.

Best not to mark your threads as answered Christine.........because you never know what members might discover for you.

thanks to everyone, still or more confused, all this info and no death dates. does jersey have a codfishing society or something that might have records of him. if it it true he died whilst cod fishing near newfoundland ??????????

Jersey deaths after 1911 aren't on line. Some pre-1911 are on Familysearch.

To find later ones, use the link in my earlier post to contact Jerseylily. She lives on Jersey and used to be willing to go to the Heritage Centre to do look ups for people. Not sure if she is still around, but its worth a try.

If you don't want to do that, then contact the Jersey Heritage Centre,. Again the link has been posted. You might want to ask them about any records they hold about the fishing industry. Any information that we might come up with about Cod Fishing is likely to be the result of an internet search, which any one can do.

If Louis did die off New Foundland, its possible that his death was registered in Canada. Because of their privacy laws, Canadian BMD are notoriously difficult to find.

jerseylily Report 22 Jun 2014 13:24

I'm still around and I'm still doing look ups in Jersey.

Jersey had a major cod fishing trade and strong links to Newfoundland and especially the Gaspé region but that was in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, not sure that it was still going strong in the 20th century though.

Births of siblings but I can't find Louis, so 7 out of the 8 live births on the 1911 accounted for, John was described as 'sickly' on his baptism so was probably one of the 4 who did not survive until 1911.

Thomas Peter was born 16/4/1878
Leonie Elizabeth Eleanore was born 7/4/1879, parents listed as Pierre Napoleon Etasse and Elizabeth Metais
John August 15/2/1880
Edith Maude 27/6/1881 parents as above except that mother is Elizabeth Le Metais.
Alfred Francis 4/3/1883
Mary Jane Julia 5/2/1884

I'll have a mooch around at the Archive next week.
