Thank you alviegal,Beverleyw and brummiejan. Maybe it was only Eliza that was the teacher as everything points to Hilliar as being in the Ironmongery business. Possibly Eliza met Hilliar when she was teaching and through the years as the information has been passed down it has got muddled and ended up with them both being teachers. I see what you mean brummiejan about the need to beware of family stories ;-)

I am wondering about the schoolteacher info too.
In 1881 Hilliar was an ironmonger's assistant, out of employment. No sign of him being a teacher in Frome:

Wow,thank you all Such a lot of information for me to be taking note of. Looks as if some of the info I had from the family was not quite right. Maybe they called him Hilary instead of Hilliar as a family thing. I don't know where he & Eliza were teaching, but it looks quite likely that it was Frome and that is why it was assumed he was from there. As his death is recorded in Frome it seems likely that Eliza moved to the shop in Bishops Castle sometime after his death.

Hi, i'm trying to find out what happened to Hilary Edwards. As far as I can gather from family he was born in Frome Somerset c 1856. He married Eliza Lewis born Newtown c1859. They were both school teachers. In later years they were the owners of a newsagents/general store in Bishops Castle. Eliza's sister Hannah lived with them. Hannah died in 1929 and Eliza in 1938 and they are buried together in Bishops Castle churchyard. A friend looked in the burial records at the church and can find no record for Hilary. I tried the free bmd records but couldn't find anything. Maybe he went back to Somerset after Eliza's death? Maybe he died before and is buried somewhere else? Perhaps someone reading this has Hilary in their family tree. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
