And yeah, I'll have another look. He seems to have died by 1861 but appears on the 1841 as a ag lab. His widowed daughter in law in 1851 is with James' son John in 1841:

Pauper formerly Mason (Church)
I'm not sure of the last word, i.e., Church.

His G Son is a Rail Labr.

Looking at it again, I think it says Pauper (formerly Groom xxxxxx)

There's a lady Elizabeth a few lines down has something a bit similar. I think it's saying that they are paupers and in brackets it denotes their former occupations.

It looks like Sawyer (formerly xxxxxxx)

What was he on other census?
