Hi
I am trying to find the contact details for the local record office for these two deaths in Birmingham.

Sarah Abel died in Mar 1845 Birmingham
William died in Mar 1864 Birmingham

But I think I need to know where they were living when they died.

They were here in 1841 but I'm not sure where he was in 1861.
1841 census????

Also how do I find out if they left a will?

Thanks for your help

If you have found the GRO record order it from the GRO

All you need then is to quote the GRO ref and you won't need any other info

Thank you for your help but unfortunately I do not have the full number for William. All I have is 6d 14_. I'm not sure if that will be enough.

Sarahs is 16 232

Often it only takes a few days if you order it from the local office but can take weeks from GRO.

Thanks again for your help

Well the GRO ref won't be any help if you order from the local register office.

I find certs are coming in about 8 days so although I am anxious to see them its not too long a wait

Thanks Shirley.

I have ordered them from the Registry office in Birmingham using that number you gave me. They say it will take a week to complete the order. I need them quickly as I am going to National Archives in the near future and I wanted go with exact details not guess work.

They did ask for the GRO number. I suppose it is to doule check they have the right one.

All the best

I'm not a happy bunny. I have just received an email form the records office saying that they have given me a partial refund for the 2 death certs I ordered. They have given no explanation as to what was wrong or whether one or both of them were wrong.

I have just emailed them for more information.

Looks like I will have to start looking again for at least one of their deaths. :-(

Just had a reply from Birmingham Register office. They have issued me one cert for Sarah but Williams age was wrong by 30yrs. This means I will have to start looking again for his death.

Birmingham Registry Office should be congratulated on their quick work.

The problem for death records at that time is the age isn't recorded on the

GRO ref it is of course on the actual death cert .

Guess its back to the drawing board on William but at least you didn't buy the wrong one

Wonder if he says if dad is alive or not ,although it did depend how the question was asked about the father whether deceased was recorded even tho he was

Thanks Shirley-i'm gettin the hang of it. It looks like it,

Reggie found his son Giles birth for me. so it looks as if I am going to have to try and order some of them to help me.

I have just been to the library to use thier Ancestry but it is not working at the moment. Guess I will try later in the week.

Thanks for helping me

I have found him on the 1851 with his daughter Sarah. As yet I can't find him on the 1861.

There are also two deaths for William Abel in Birmingham
June 1850 and Sept 1852. So either could be him.

I am going to the National Archives in a couple of weeks will I be able to find out which one is him there? Or should I see if someone in Birmingham Registry Office could check for me. If I ask nicely.

Thanks for your help

If the death certificate you have for Sarah is the correct one it would have an address for her. Would it be possible to find where she was buried in the hope that William is buried in the same lair? That was the method I used to find a date of death for my 3x G Grandfather. Although he died in 1904 for some reason his death doesn't show up on the Scottish indexes although I am 100% sure he died in Glasgow. I had a date of death for his wife and was able to locate the cemetery and lair number for her. The local authority were then able to tell me that he was also buried there and his date of death from the records.

I now have the death for Sarah Abel. It said she died from inflammationof the Womb. on 25 March 1845. It also says Samuel abel was present at her death. I am guessing that Samuel abel was her son. He was living at 5 Court, Fleethouse Lane, Birmingham?? Is there anyway I can find out who was living with him on the 1851 census.

I do not know anything about him.

Thanks

Jane
