Hi marieceleste,
I've looked on Trove , bdm , genealogy wise, my heritage, family reunited, google and more but this sight I'm finding is so much better with all these lovely people that help you. When you feel as though your family tree building has come to a dead end on every side I mean not even my dads side of his dads family could trace there family back and it was gut ranching watching not just my dad suffered but also my mum, wanted to as well, she did ask her mum a couple of times like why don't I have a dad ect but her mum never opened her mouth. So I said to my mum I'll track them all down for you.
So I thought I should give it a go and I had no luck until I found this sight so not only am I doing this for my parents I'm also doing this for my children too.

Jo

Jo Report 2 Jun 2014 22:31

There is a tree on Ancestry has John Innis as born 1877 NSW, parents John Joseph Innis and Mary Ann Sullivan. They state the source as birth certificate but haven't attached a copy. It seems to be a well researched tree and lists all the siblings for John Joseph and all of his children (siblings to Ernest Cecil).

Jo, if you're not a member of Ancestry then join their FREE spin-off site Mundia http://www.mundia.com/gb/. You can find the tree and make contact with the owner.

Looks like Ernest Cecil and second wife Gladys Ruby may have parted around 1950. They're together on Electoral Rolls up to 1949 but separately thereafter.

Trove is a fantastic resource if you're researching families in Australia. It's digitised newspapers and it's free. http://trove.nla.gov.au/

You can find out info from newspapers that wouldn't be in official records. Give it a go.

I found this "In Memoriam" notice from The Sydney Morning Herald of Tuesday 13 August 1929

INNIS -In loving memory of my dear wife and our dear mother Gladys Irene who departed this life August 13 1928.

A beautiful memory left behind
Of a loving wife and mother good and kind
We hove lost, but heaven has gained
One of the best this world contained

Inserted by her loving husband Ernie and babies Fred and George.

So it looks like they had two boys.

Jo, the births would be too recent to be on-line but if you add Australia to the heading as suggested one of the experts might spot it and be able to help further.

Note I said MAY have been married twice! - without buying certificates or transcriptions then there's no 100% guarantee. But, it does seem quite likely.

If you do a search of marriages on NSW BMD it looks as though he may have been married twice, first time in 1923 and the second in 1933.

Registration Number Groom's Surname Groom's Given Name(s) Bride's Last Name at Time of Marriage Bride's Given Name(s) District *

Hello Jo, NSW records are free to search at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/bdm_fh.html
and you can order certificates (or find a transcription agent) online.

Sylvia posted an extract from his birth record above, this is what is on Ancestry:

Australia Birth Index, 1788-1922
Name: Ernest C J Innis
Birth Date: 1900
Father's Name: John Innis
Mother's name: Alice T
Birth Place: New South Wales
Registration Year: 1900
Registration Place: Sydney, New South Wales
Registration Number: 9561

The info on this matches what is on the NSW BMD site:

Registration Number Last Name Given Name(s) Father's Given Name(s) Mother's Given Name(s) District Purchase Certificate
9561/1900 INNIS ERNEST C J JOHN ALICE T SYDNEY

It might be an idea to edit the title of your thread to include Australia - that way researchers who specialise in that part of the world may spot it. To do this, go to your very first post and click edit - you can then get back to the heading to amend it.
