The death cert for Mary should say if she was or widow of so that will tell you if alexander was still alive then

I am looking to see if anyone can find out where Alexander died, here are the details I have so far

Alexander was born 27/10/1897 in Shotts, Lanarkshire to Alexander Chalmers and Christina Forrest.
He married Mary McNeil Thomson on 28/12/1922 in Shotts.
I have found an entry for Mary's death in 1971 in Ormskirk but have still to obtain the certificate.

If anyone can help with this, I would be very much appreciated.
