Peter, it's not quite clear if you still have a query, and if so, what it is?
I assume you mean 'No this seems to be her' rather than 'here'!

Just to add, there are at least 5 women in Blackburn 1891 who might match, with variants of both names.

Thank you Jan, sorry yes I meant 'her' not 'here'.

The Hannah Lever in the newspaper article was aged 69 yrs. She was awarded £70 damages after an accident in which the tram brakes failed after the tram had gathered speed, and despite the two horses falling clear of the tram, the tramcar continued on its course , until, instead of turning on the points by the Town Hall, it went on and collided against two lampposts and was brought to a stop in a shop window.

Hannah was left suffering from nervous shock, and unlikely to be able to work again, and had been compelled to live with her son. At the time of the accident Hannah had been working as a housekeeper to a Mr Walker who allowed her 3s a week and food and lodgings, and her son allowed her 2s 6d per week additional..

Hannah's medical bill for treatment atter the accident came to 18 guineas.

The tram company claimed there was a defect in the rod attached to the brake, which caused it to break; but a civil engineer said the rod appeared to have been broken by a sudden application of the brake. Another engineer saw no inherent fault with the rod, and considered anyone who applied the brake suddenly, to be guilty of negligence. Had it been applied gradually, the tramcar would have been brought to a standstill in 30 or 40 yards.
