As you have two records saying 1859, and two saying Robert Joseph, my guess (and only a guess) would be that that is correct, and that the John on Violet's birth cert is a slip of the registrar's concentration. It does happen!

Perhaps you've only been looking for deaths of specifically a Robert Joseph?

Hello, can anyone please help me with my great grandfather Robert J Bird, all the information I have found seems to conflict and as I am new to this I am not sure how to find out if I have the wrong info or the actual info is wrong (hope that makes sense)

He is listed on the 1901 Census with my grandmother Violet Mary Ann Bird (Aged 2) with a Birth year of 1859 and a Birth Town of Walton On Thames,

On the 1911 Census the Bird Family has been recorded as Birch and his wife Jane E is listed as married not widowed, however I can-not find any record of him at this time.

I found only one Birth Record in 1859 of a Robert Joseph Bird in Chertsey, and I have struggled to locate his record of death, I have found a Robert Joseph Bird who died in 1903 but his birth year is listed as 1849.

I have found a Robert J Bird who died in 1928 but this was in Devon ! His parents may have come from there but I am not sure as one census report which lists his name states he was born in Milton but after looking at the original it could read Walton.

My other issue is whilst I have found a birth of a Robert Joseph 1859 and a marriage of Robert Joseph 1891, on my grandmothers birth certificate he is listed as Robert John.

This is all very confusing :-S

How do I verify which is what and who is where ?
