Mothers' maiden names aren't on marriage or death records, so that isn't surprising.

When your grandmother - and her second husband - died, who registered their deaths?

ErikaH Report 7 May 2014 16:51

Have you checked on freebmd for Hodgson/Barber marriages?

If there aren't any which fit with regard to time-scale and location, the odds are that Edith is the daughter of your grandmother and her second husband

In view of the Elizabeth's age, it would be surprising if she hadn't had a child - or several - with her second husband.

There are NINE Hodgson/Barber births in West Ham on freebmd from 1919 to 1935, so not sure why you picked out only the one for Edith

ErikaH Report 7 May 2014 17:18

There is no death for her on FMP...........nor is there a marriage

the two Yorkshire marriages for the name can probably be accounted-for by two births in the County..................and certainly one of them is accounted for by both birth and death

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 7 May 2014 17:19

And what about the other EIGHT Hodgson/Barber births?

Dame*Shelly*(

Dame*Shelly*("\(*o*)/") Report 7 May 2014 17:19

Been following your thread Dame Shelly.

Like you I was searching for a deceased sibling of my grandfather - existence unknown until recently. Like you I can find a birth, which all fits in Hackney area but cannot locate a corresponding death.

All I have been able to find is a possible - but not in the Hackney area as expected. My search is for an "Eliza A" but the possible death is registered as an "Eliza" - I wondered if perhaps the child Edith W was sick and in a hospital away from West Ham and the death registered as Edith without the W?

I know it doesn't help you to find Edith W but perhaps you could widen your search for Edith Hodgsons who died young (if you haven't done so already)
