GlitterBaby: it just says Henry Ellis (deceased) on the marriage certificate and you are right I was assuming George was a brother. I think I might be getting confused with the marriage certificate what I meant was-the book where they sign?(forgotten what it's called) My dad did seem to remember a brother George but he's not sure. The baptism information info looks interesting. It says Charles Edward on the birth certificate from the GRO and it also says Maria Ellis (formerly Davis) on the birth certificate

The last post from Mike with just the initials also looks interesting because of Hornsey rise being nearby...

How do you know that George Alfred is a brother and not an Uncle or Cousin ?

I am researching the Ellis side of my family and have now got stuck. The father on the birth certificate of Charles Edward Ellis (my great, great grandfather) was a Henry Joseph Ellis and his wife was Maria (nee Davis). It showed that he was born at home on the 4th of June 1879 in Esher road-now Fairbridge Road-Islington (registered 15th July). It lists Henry's occupation as a brass finisher. I know from Charles' marriage certificate that his father was deceased when he married in April 1903 and that he had been a brass worker. His brother George Alfred Ellis signed the marriage certificate as a witness. (Charles married a Maud Mary Francis)
I have been trying using mainly ancestry library to find some information on Charles' family from the census's (1881, 1891,1901) but without success. I would like to find out when and where his dad and mother were born and how many brothers and or sisters Charles had. I would also be interested to know about the brass working and if there were brass factories in Islington? It is also of interest to note that in the 1911 Census Charles says he was born in Clerkenwell.
I would be very grateful for any further information which may help me get past the brick wall :-)
