SCOTTISH BIRTH LOOK-UP PLEASE

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Dave Report 5 May 2014 14:55

Hi,

Researching for a friend of mine, her grandmother came from Scotland (Fife I think), her name was IVY W PICK and was probably born around 1910ish. She married Albert Pitman in 1930 at Poole, Dorset.

If anyone has access to the Scottish recordsI would be grateful for a birth record and any other information on her that may be thrown up.

Thanks, Dave :-)

They state they have been married 7 years and had 1 child still living, but not with them on the census. So Violet Jessie found by Anne?

Hello respondents:- Andy, Flip & Ann

Thank you all so much for the work you have sent me. I will digest it all this evening and update my records.

Yes my friend's father's name was Eric C Pitman.

It must be my friend's mother who originated from Scotland and I have picked up wrongly.

She was Catherine Connelly when she married Eric Pitman but the records show two surnames. Flander and Connelly, I assume that she was married previously and her maiden name was Flander. If anyone can trace her then I would be most grateful.

Thanks once a gain, you're all stars !!

Best wishes; Dave

On the image of the GRO index entry for the Pitman/Connolly marriage (1957), her other surname is Fiander, (also listed as Flander).

This could be her first marriage:

1947 FIANDER WILLIAM
CONNELLY CATHERINE BUCKHAVEN /FIFE 459/02 0148

Flip

Flip Report 5 May 2014 18:54

Well, in that case there were 2 children born in Doncaster following the marriage. Both have mmn as Connelly, so that was her birth name. Although she had been known as Fiander/Flander at some point - so maybe she lived with Mr Fiander/Flander or assumed a stepfather's name?

I'm not sure which name is right as it's been transcribed as both flander and fiander. But having looked at the index it's Fiander.

Added, guess Argylgran beat me to this - it looks likely for a previous marriage :-D

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 5 May 2014 18:57

Possibly her birth, based on the marriage I posted above:

1928 CONNELLY CATHERINE F BUCKHAVEN /FIFE 459/02 0149

Further details aren't available online for such a recent birth or marriage, but your friend could buy the birth or marriage cert to find out Catherine's parents' names.

Dave

For future reference, please note that Scottish BMD records have to be paid for using credits, which cannot be re-used,

This also applies to the 1911 Scottish census

Scotlands people site does not offer subscriptions

Also....

Did you actually look up the Pick/Pitman marriage?

Dave

Reggie

Thanks for that information.

Since my original post I have looked up the marriage Pick/Pitman as you mention and I note that I have entered the wrong year. 1930. It should read 1933 Poole.

As you also asked for information about Catherine, I take it you have noticed my posts giving her probable birth and first marriage, Dave?

Dave

Dave Report 6 May 2014 13:28

ArgyllGran

Yes I have noticed and I am going to see if a friend of mine who lives in Fife can trace her at the local library. I am assuming that the Scottish records are available through the library as is the case in England. ----- BUT

They may not be though after reading the post from Reggie above.

The Scotland's People Centre in Edinburgh is the place to go to view Scottish BMD records.

If you (or your friend) quote(s) the GROS ref numbers I gave, they'll be easy to find.
