PM from Eileen:

Yes. I do have a census where he lists 1854 as his first year in America. I'm pretty sure we have good data here. I have two different sources that confirm it? What about Catholic parish records in Ireland? I paid a bit extra to have access to them, but I'm not sure I am using them correctly because I can't narrow them down to one Patrick Lynch. Ideas?

I assume you are searching on GR, but I don't have any idea of what records the have. As none of the US census records state a birth place other than Ireland, I'm not sure how you can narrow down his birth.

Hi Eileen

Difficult to find anyone in Ireland before 1901 as all the census records were pulped during a paper shortage! Very short-sighted of our ancestors. Even with census records it would be difficult to find one who disappears, as many came to England & Scotland for work and there were no records of their passage.

There were a number of Patrick Lynch's travelling to the US around 1853-55, and the 1900 census stating he had been there 45 years so arriving c1854 is the only record I can find indicating his arrival date - after all those years it could be a couple of years out.

Thank you one and all for your help. I have loads of census and telephone book data for Patrick while in America. I need information about him from 1833 to 1854. Can anyone find a Patrick Lynch who disappeared from Irish records around 1854?

PM RECEIVED ....

There were two Patrick Lynch's in Tolland County Connecticut at the same time. I have not been able to determine, for sure, which one is my relative. I am almost ready to drop the (H) because Patrick H Lynch was a machinist and our family stories have Patrick Lynch working a tobacco farm. Any advise?

The Patrick Lynch arriving in 1854 (attached to your tree) was travelling with Bridget Lynch also aged 21 (no relationship given, so could be his sister or wife), and Neal Lynch 9. He was a taylor, so isn't this unlikely given that he was a farmer on the census?

I am trying to find ancestors for Patrick Lynch b. 1833 in Ireland. He arrived in America in 1854. He married Mary Haley shortly before he left or shortly after he arrived and had 5 children. I have loads of information about him in America from Ancestry.com, Archives.com, FamilySearch.com and GeneologyBank.com. What I can not find is where,in Ireland, he was born and his family relatives in Ireland. He lived in Ellington, Tolland, Conneticuit USA from 1860 until his death around 1908.

Thank you for anything you can do, Eileen
