WOW! Thank you all sooooo very much for the help that you have put in!

Gins - I don't know his fathers occupation but based on a newspaper article that I have on the son Charles, it states that the son was a builder so coming from a father who was a carpenter certainly wouldn't be a long stretch. I will try to look further into this one. Thanks.

Flip - Yes, quite a mouthful!!! I have not found a birth record or a death record anywhere stating Charles Augustus William Frederick HALLETT, however this name (or the abbreviated form) appears on his marriage certificate as well as is listed as his name on his childrens birth certificates. The same newspaper article that I mentioned above states that he was born in Kentish Town, London, but much of this article was wrong. The family have always believed that he was from Somerset, but maybe he was born in London but lived in Somerset?

Cherilyn - I have most of the records, but not the certificates yet.. I just still can't manage to get any definitive answers yet! Aargh!!! So frustrating!! lol

Another tree has Chas' death as the 1927 one aged 74 in Mordialloc, which seems to fit except Emily's death mentions Footscray. The one who died aged 74 was a sea captain.

So he married as Charles Aug Wilm Fred Hallett, quite a mothful! Do you have the marriage certificate for any other details on him? I see from another forum he stated born London, but does the certificate give his age/parentage>

Perhaps you need to get this certificate - which gives him several given names!!!

Bear in mind that details on death certs can be wrong. Also Ann or Anna is an abbreviation for Hannah.

Also on the same ship was James (15), listed with other single males. He also died in quarantine, as did quite a few other passengers. It clearly states he was from Somerset, which isn't too clear with the listing for the family.

Flip Report 3 May 2014 13:09

The Charles Hallett arriving in 1850 was with siblings Henry 11, Anne 7 & George 4 - it states they are orphans. Father Charles (41) along with Henry died in quarantine. Mother Hannah already dead.

I think this may be the family in 1841

Sam Report 3 May 2014 11:32

I am hoping that someone out there can help me. I am looking for A Charles HALLETT. He was my husbands GG-Grandfather. Unfortunately, I know very little about him.

Here is what I know. He married in Victoria, Australia in 1872 to Emily CLARK (born London). He had 6 children in Australia - Walter Charles (1873), Ernest Clark (1875), Charles Henry (1877), Lucy Louise (1880), Joseph Leslie (1883), Emily Victoria (1885) and Victor John (1887).

What we believe to be his death record states that he was born c1847 (he died in 1927 in Melbourne, Australia) and that his parents were Chas (Charles) HALLETT and Ann UNKNOWN.

I cannot find any record for a Charles HALLETT entering Australia that fit the timeline apart from one entering in 1850 on board the ship EMIGRANT. This actually puts his birth in 1837 and his parents as Charles and Hannah HALLETT.

Can anyone out there please help me to either confirm my theory that the Charles who arrived on the EMIGRANT might be or might not be the Charles that I am searching for?

Thanks in advance
Sam :-S
