Afraid it seems you have come to a brick wall as no father on his birth cert.

It happens to so many people.

John George Martin could have been his father but married someone else.

In 1911 both families were at Kelvin Street Dalton Rotherham.. The interesting thing is that they may have been involved in the Denaby Bag Muck Strike in 1902.

I know Dawn but like me she has been unable to confirm father as there does not seem to be a marriage untill Eliza married Frederick Hutchinson in 1895.

Someone on Ancestry has a tree with lots of info on George but no father listed. Mother is as you say. Tree owner is a Dawn Martin.

George was born 1892 in Woodhouse Sheffield his mother Eliza Alvey but no father on his birth certificate he married Nellie Evans June 1912. His marriage certificate show father John George Martin deceased. George was killed 27/11/1917 Cambrai France serving with the Kings own Yorkshire L.Inft. He had a son Leonard and daughter Edna. There were relatives in Stamford Lincs and I remember visiting someone working at Nocton Hall nr Lincoln.
