Hi All,

I am having great difficulty in tracing my granddad's family.
As far as i know he was born in Coed Poeth Wales ?
His parents were Joseph Roberts & Elizabeth Hart.
They had 3 children Joseph born 1892, My granddad Edward born 1894
then Blodwin 1908. Who I think was born in Platt Bridge Wigan Lancashire.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Looks like Blodwin is possibly Thomas' daughter. Thomas is single and Elizabeth is a widow.

Years married says 19 with 3 children born alive to marriage and 3 still living. This has been crossed out. Elizabeth is firstly put as married but this is crossed out and noted as a Widow instead and housekeeper, whilst Thomas, recorded as the father not stepfather, is Single, married then Single again.

So as Thomas is recorded as aged 33, then presume he is not the father of 19 year old Joseph or 17 year old Edward.
EDIT - no you said Edward's parents were Joseph Roberts and Elizabeth

Not finding a marriage for Elizabeth hart and Joseph Roberts?

1911 census shows her born Platt Bridge. They are living in the Leigh RD. Platt Bridge is halfway between Wigan and Leigh, about 4 miles to each.

The certificate would confirm her parents and hopefully Elizabeths maiden name.
It would appear that Thomas Williams acknowledged being her father, but has Roberts as her surname on the census.

Like Alviegal, I'm not finding a marriage between an Elizabeth Hart and a Joseph Roberts.

And not finding Elizabeth, Joseph and Edward on the 1901 census.

Where have you got the information from that Edwards parents are Joseph Roberts and Elizabeth Hart?

Could this be something to follow ??

If Elizabeth Hart is correctly recorded as 33 in 1884, then surely she can't be the mother of Blodwyn b 1908, it would make her aged 56/7 at the birth.

It still doesn't explain either where Glyn has got Elizabeth Hart and JOSEPH Roberts as Edward's parents. Hopefully if he returns to the thread he might be able to tell us.

Do you have any certificates Glyn, if so can you tell us which and give all the information that is recorded on them please.

Thanks for all the info, i am a novice at this .
from the info i have been given by family members, it is very little,
Elizabeth Hart was born 1874 she would be 34 when Blodwin was born.
All i have is Joseph Roberts & Elizabeth Hart, and their 3 children
Joseph 1892, Edward my granddad 1894, and Blodwin 1908,
who was born out of wedlock in Platt Bridge Wigan.
Her siblings were born in Wales.
I don't even know when my great granddad Joseph Roberts was born,
and where he died.
Did he die before Elizabeth came to the Wigan area, i honestly could not
say, so i am in limbo.
Anyway i would like to thank every body for their help so far.

Where did you get HART from? What PROOF is there?

Have you got EDWARD'S birth cert?

PM from Glyn, no answers to the questions raised.

Edward Roberts was my granddad on my mothers side,
He Married my nan Lilly Barnes and they had 5 children
4 daughters & 1 son.
All i know about Edward Roberts is he had a brother Joseph and a sister Blodwin.
They lived in Westleigh, Leigh Lancashire.

If Elizabeth says she had been married 19 years on the 1911 census , although
it was crossed out - that takes you back to the Elizabeth Jones and Joseph Roberts
marriage Wrexham Jun Q 1891 near enough

well worth the £9-25 as its known that Elizabeth's maiden name was Jones
