umm ... my apologies my glance did indeed slip from the marriage to the birth record of their child in the post up above

no big ???? simple silly reading error that you have cleverly caught

all framed as surmise in any event, and an example of how to use the freebmd search, with full agreement that the marriage certificate is needed

the son was John Richard (death record 1988)

Ummmmm....

Can i just point out that the marriage that took place in 1915........

There is no middle initial of "R" for John Hester????

we know that Doris's father was John R Hester

Kathleen if you look at freebmd as people keep suggesting

and search for a birth of

hester

you will find the only likely one

(the last John R before that was in 1873, and the next one after was in 1910)

Annie Gash's name is a little more common, but still, we expect she was born around the same time and place

so this is very likely her birth, and again, all you need to do is go to freebmd and search for a birth for her name

once you have their marriage certificate, and that is indeed essential to make sure you do not go searching down the wrong road, you can look in the 1901 and 1911 censuses (or someone will for you) for people the right age with the right fathers


if you use the Search All Member Trees function here
(upper right, hover your mouse over Search to find it)

and search for Annie Gash born 1894 +/- 2 years

you find someone who has

Annie Gash 1895 West Ham, Essex, Eng...

there was no Annie Gash born in 1895 in West Ham (you can see that from your search at freebmd) so very probably that is the Annie Gash born 1894 in St George in the East

people often put birth dates in their trees that they take from the ages in censuses without checking birth records

I did a little further poking about and it isn't clear what that person's relationship with Annie Gash is but it would be worth enquiring


in the 1901 census that Annie Gash is shown as the niece of Richard Gash 66 and Laura Gash 63
in the household are 2 married sons and 1 married daughter of the couple
but all the children in the household are shown as niece or nephew

(this is undoubtedly where the info in the genesreunited member's tree comes from, the census shows Annie as aged 6 born in West Ham where they are living)

it may well be that the chidren were actually grandchildren of the couple
but this is another reason why you need the Gash-Hester marriage certificate to be sure of Annie's father's name

one would certainly think that the Williams children are children of the married daughter, not niece and nephew of the older couple, so probably Annie is the daughter of Richard and Alice

in 1911 that Annie is not in their household but Elizabeth and Richard (from the 1901) and two younger children are shown as their children

but only the marriage certificate will tell you whether this is the correct Annie

John Hester and Annie Gash should appear on the 1911 census..............but you need to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate.........which will hopefully give you details of how old they were when they married, the address they were living, at time of marriage..........and the name and occupation of their Father's.
