I have been searching for Jesse Swindle/swindall/swindell's father.Jesse was born in 1858 in Ashby-de-la -Zouch.He married Jane Eleanor Homer Born 1861 in Ashby-De-La-Zouch Leicestershire England.I have found conflicting information so I am unsure.Regards Gill |

The youngest child appears to be Daniel on subsequent census so I think the boys were all born as HAYES. |

As the 1861 census has them living with the Hayes family, it would make sense. |

Hello Chris, I do not have any Certificates for Jess.I have his Mother's BMDso I know for sure that Jess was her father.I want to send for Jess's Birth Certificate but Southport Registry Office will want to knoew the day.month as well as the year consequently the reason for my plea |

I agree with you that he might have been illegitimate but surely he would had to be registered anyway..I am going to send for a Birth Certificate in a hope that the staff at Southport will research either side of 1858 and be able to come up with the desired Certificate. Regards Gill |

No, it did not 'have' to be registered............until 1875 there were no penalties for not registering births. |
