Find Ancestors

Hello All

I was just wondering does anyone out there have any info on this company, Cyile Chair Works from the year 1911 in Manchester?

I have googled it etc but can find nothing, My great grandmother worked there for a number of years so I am trying to find out a bit more about it.

Note: Spelling of Cyile as transcribed not 100%

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Danny - where have you transcribed the word 'Cyile' from ?

Perhaps if it is from the 1911 census you could give the reference and I could take a look?

What's her age in 1911, please, Daniel? and where was she born?

I don't see any Elizabeth McCarthy's living specifically in Chorlton upon Medlock in 1911, though there are several in Lancashire.

When and where was Elizabeth born please and who is she with on census.

There seem to be rather a lot of them !!! ;-)

The bicycle industry developed with great rapidity from about 1880-1896 and it was impossible to produce chains fast enough with these limited premises and plant. In 1889 Hans Renold started to build a six-storey building set back from Brook Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock (see photo below). The building was known as 'Progress Works'. From then until 1905 the story was one of steady expansion – one new building after another.
