Correction By 14/9/1914, the Battle of the Marne was over, and the Germans retreated to the next river line, so Rich'd would have fallen at the Aisne.
The CWGC memorial is to 3740 missing officers and men of the BEF.

If you want to see what a d.cert for a MIA soldier looks like, there's a couple of examples at:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Content/Help/index.aspx?r=554&404
Follow the WW1 War returns link at the foot of the page. (These examples are of Scottish soldiers, but the English war return registers were the same.)

Thanks to Mary, I think we can conclude my cwgc hit refers to your Richard.

1st The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment was one of 4 battalions in the 2nd Infantry Brigade, which was part of the 1st division, along with the 1st & 3rd Bde's, 13 batteries of artilliary and other divisional troops. The 1st & 2nd div formed Haig's I Corps.

If you click on the memorial link on the cwgc hit I posted, it'll take you to:
http://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/79100/LA%20FERTE-SOUS-JOUARRE%20MEMORIAL
and you'll see Rich'd fell at the Battle of the Marne, where the initial German advance was turned back from the gates of Paris - well, a bit of an exaggeration, but close enough that reinforcements arriving in Paris from other parts of France were rushed to the front in Paris's double-decker buses.

Using http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years:
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
1883 PINCHIN Alice Annie Pemberton Wigan & Leigh BAKER PEM/48/321
1886 PINCHIN Martha Pemberton Wigan & Leigh BAKER PEM/52/285
1888 PINCHIN May Wigan Wigan & Leigh BAKER WIG/167/257

Since Abram was in Hindley subdistrict, not Pemberton, pob=Abram seems unlikely.
Winstanley was in Pemberton subdistrict - they're on opposite sides of Wigan.

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1903
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
ROBERTS Richard PINCHIN Annie Birkdale St Peter North Sefton C4/3/33

There is no R Roberts with dod=19/9/1914 on CWGC site but there is this guy:

ROBERTS, RICHARD
Rank:Private
Service No:6878
Date of Death:14/09/1914
Regiment/Service:The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment 1st Bn.
Panel Reference
Memorial LA FERTE-SOUS-JOUARRE MEMORIAL
Additional Information:

Also, there's a hit for this guy's service record on Ancestry.
The first page normally has pob, age, trade and residential addy, so this could identify him as your Richard (or not).

I think someone killed that early must be a regular army guy in service immediately pre-war.
When war broke out, they recalled reservists (i.e., recently demobbed srvicemen), but I don't think those guys got to France until much later in 1914.
To be eligible for the 1914 Star, one had to serve in France/Flanders on or before 22/11/1914 - only 1 Canadian unit qualified, viz # 2 Stationary Hospital.
The first Terrtorial Division did not go to France until 24/2/1915, and the first of Kitchener's New Army divisions crossed to France in early May 1915; similarly, ANZAC day is 25/4/1915.

Accordingly to the 1911 census there was 1 child born and 1 child living.....so it doesn't look like there were any other children born upto 1911

Thank you all so much

I wonder if more children were born between Evelyn 1904 and Richard 1913 seems rather a big gap between 2 children...
