I'm trying to find where Ernest Philip Carey born about March 3 1912 and died april 5 1912 is buried. at Patshull we've looked at local churches and have spoken to the archive office at Stafford but no luck. Anyone got any other ideas. Thanks

Since he died at just a few days old it is very likely that he was buried in the coffin of someone else being buried at the time - probably a complete stranger. This was often the case at the time and for quite some time after that. There should however still be a record of the burial.

Is this the archive office you contacted? :-

Staffordshire Record Office
Eastgate Street
Stafford
ST16 2LZ

Archive enquiries:- 01785-278379

Thanks for your reply Kath, Ive just edited what I wrote earlier, on his death cert it states that he was 4 weeks old. We've also got the date of his private baptism which was 26 march 1912. Yes that was the record office that we contacted. Will keep trying different avenues and hopefully something may turn up

Even as late as 1938, deceased infants were buried along with whoever was 'next in line' at the undertakers, especially if the parents were poor.

1911 census shows the family in Shropshire. Might be worth checking the RO at Shrewsbury.

Ricochet is correct. We found that even in 1946 my husband's baby brother who died at just 12 hours old was buried in the same coffin as a 2 year old girl being buried at the local churchyard.

We found the information about his burial at the County Record Office.
