Thanks to Chris & Argyllgran for the VAD links. I have already contacted the Red Cross and asked them to search their records but unfortunately they did not have any other information than name, where served & when enlisted. They had no information on family, age or when discharged. Will just have to keep looking.

Thanks

Brian

"VAD Records

VAD records from World War One and the Second World War are stored with the British Red Cross Museum and Archives. Sadly they are incomplete but staff can help with information requests including dates of service, duties performed, where the VAD served and any honours awarded. A written request is needed and further information can be found at www.redcross.org.uk/index.asp?id=3423 "

Thanks for all the replies most which I have replied to directly. Unfortunately most do not give me any additional leads as they do not fit the little information I have. The reference from Joseph & Chris is the most promising but again tenuous as none of the information I have gathered suggests that she was a staff nurse in the VAD just a general nurse and I have no reference of any of the family having links with Leicester but I will follow them up.

We think there is a family connection as I am in possession of items belonging to Mary H and Edith (Mary or May) Goodall but it is not a family name so the connection may be by marriage somewhere down the line.
The family streams are mainly Purvis- Co. Durham & North Yorkshire, Place - Cumbria & Co Durham (these I have ruled out as I have a lot of info on these) and Bradbrook - started of Suffolk & Essex, some went to London and my branch moved to North Yorkshire.

Again thanks for trying to help

Regards

Brian

Brian,

Could you say what other information you have about her that leads you to be looking for her?

Thank-you

Welcome to the boards Brian.

This is the only Edith M. Goodhall that I can see in the 1911 census - and Middlesbrough isn't that far from Darlington:-

EDIT - please ignore this as I have just realised that the spelling of the surname is not what you have given.

Do you have any idea of how old Mary was during that time?

I am trying to find relatives of Miss Mary H Goodall who served in the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) in Darlington in 1915-1918. She served at the 6th Durham VAD Hospital, Woodside, Darlington.
She may have had a relative Edith M Goodall
Any help would be appreciated.
