I'm not sure about the years you're looking at .....................

but I have both of my parents "leaving papers".

Dad obviously kept hi in his wallet for many years as it is all creased and marked.

Both date from the 1912/1915 era ........ both were aged 12 when they finished school

Each is about 4" by 4" or 5"

Both just state that (name) had completed xxxx days (or hours) of school, and had thus met the requirements.

The only hand-written items were the name and the number of hours (or days)

There is no parental information, not any indication of where they were going ..................

but the paper did have to be shown to a potential employer to prove that one had legally completed the required amount of tuition.

hence why Dad carried it in his wallet.

I ALREADY HAVE the admission papers!!! it's the discharge papers i would like. He was placed there because him mum couldn't cope and step dad didn't want him, he never went back to his family who lived in london. I need this to help me to go further, others have already looked for him on the census etc and there is nothing obvious. xx

These registers cover the period 1870-1916. The school admission registers usually give:
Entry number
Date of admission
Name of child
Date of birth
Name of parents or guardians
Address
Name of previous school (if applicable)
Date of withdrawal
Name of school sent to following withdrawal (if applicable)

hi all it is not a marriage that i'm after it's an ind school discharge which can only be viewed at the library. the admission is online but the discharge has not been digitised. I can find no trace of the person post admission no death, marriage, census, passenger list etc etc so i was hoping the discharge would give me a clue.

You can view the parish records they have, usually on microfilm/microfiche (from a conservation viewpoint). This includes C of E marrs post-1837 in Manchester's case.

Didn't think you could view marriages at a library anyway??

If the look ups are for marrs after civil registration began, it's worth providing your looker-upper with the hit from:
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ or http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/ whichever is appropriate.

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1846
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
ATHERTON Abel BENT Amelia Prestwich, St.Mary Bury CE18/10/287

This example is available, and indexed, in FS's collection:
"England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Parish Registers, 1603-1910"
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FMT3-ZBH
If I take the image link, I see this is entry # 287, and appears on image 149 of 255.

However, sometimes one does have to "Browse through 248,202 images" as they've not all been indexed yet. Here's one such example:
Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1880
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
PENNINGTON Albert HILDITCH Ellen Salford Sacred Trinity Salford C24/1/399

I go to:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND
nd follow the path:
England, Lancashire, Ches...rish Registers, 1603-1910Lancashire > Salford, Sacred Trinity > Marriages, 1838-1882 > Image 209 of 259

An official marr rego has 2 entries per page, and 500 entries per register.
One could scan a rego in 126 images if one scanned two facing pages as 1 image, but in this collection they seem to only present 1 page per image.
In the Salford, Sacred Trinity set of 259 images, the first is of the title page, but I didn't serach to see what the other 8 extra pages were - perhaps they were rescans at a difft setting.
Anyways, one I know I want entry 399, this should be on the 200th image of entries, plus one for the title page, so I try image 201 - see I'm 14 entries short so try 208; see I'm still a couple of entries short, so I need 209 [image 206 looks identical to 205 to me].
