Find Ancestors

George and Eliza Bailey were born in Burgate, Suffolk and were married in Chesterfield, Derbyshire where my great grandmother was born in 1861. Can anyone advise me how I can find out why they and several of their siblings left Suffolk? was it because they were registered as paupers? How did they get to Chesterfield and why there? Does anyone have this pair and Georges parents ,Zacharia Bailey and Keziah Godbold b c 1806, Stowupland on their tree

I would think that they went to find work. George is an Ag Lab in 1851 then is shown on censuses as Iron and Ore miner and Coal miner, as is his brother William. A lot of people left the country areas around this time to work in the industrial areas.

There was an agricultural slump in 1850/60's. A lot of people left the land to find work in the newly industrialising areas.

It seems you could nearly always get work in the mines when the ag work dried up in rural areas. Don't forget that a lot of agricultural work was taken over by machines that could do the work much quicker than men and boys.

I can't find an Eliza Nunn with a father of Richard Nunn as on her marriage only one with a George Nunn.
