Looking for information 1910 to present regarding the above.
If the information that I have is correct then the following is correct.
David Ewart born Scotland 1875 (a brother of my grandfather) seems to have emigrated to Australia in 1910. In 1911 he marries a Jane Irvine Jamieson in Victoria reg no 4518. He appears to have died 26/2/1952 and was shown as a Wharf man. and lived in Deepdene,Melbourne.
Jane Irvine Jamieson was born in Scalloway,Shetland.1884. She was a domestic in the same house in Leith in Edinburgh as my paternal grandmother (who also came from Shetland) in 1901.
I think Jane probably went out to Australia in 1911 and married David. She is shown as having died in 1967 aged 82 at Deep, in Victoria.(All details of father & mother match).

I would love to have some confirmation that the connection is correct and to find out what happened from 1911 onwards. Also it would be great to find out if there are any living family

The Argus (Melbourne) Tues 26 Feb 1952

EWART – on February 24 (suddenly) David beloved husband of Jeanie Ewart 12 May Street Deepdene, and loved father of Nancy

EWART – The funeral of the late David Ewart will leave Le Pine’s funeral parlor 841? Burke Rd Camberwell this day (Tuesday) after a service commencing at 1.45pm for the Box Hill Cemetery.

Neither of the above helps to explain who Annie is.

This does though

Annie Isabel (Known as Nancy) service 28/06/1996
Details of David and Jane Irvine Ewart’s internment in the family plot are also given.
.............

Still mystified who George Augustus Ewart was, or what became of him.

Box Hill Cemetery might tell you who arranged Annie's internment, but not their address at the time

Reggie- tried that - 3 listed but all with age 10 yrs later for David. 1 with no connections whatsoever (mislisted) . 2 with connections listed . One reply -still waiting for further communication. Thanks

Gins. - This is a followup to that thread. Thanks.

Detective- Many thanks for info. Am trying to follow it up.

UPDATE - I have David in Scotland therefore in UK until 1/6/1894 as a witness at a brother's wedding but nothing anywhere after that.
I have Jane in Scotland in the 1901census.
The only tree with connection that I am able to see shows Jane Married to an David Ewart -an Australian and 10 yrs younger and a daughter Alice whose age is obviously wrong
Hope the foregoing is of help

You might wish to consider purchasing & downloading David and Jane's MC from
https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria

According to this link http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html it would give the names of both his parents.

His DC should name any (or at least number) the children he had. You can purchase it from the same source. As you've quoted that he was a Wharfman when he died, does this mean that you already have access to a copy? Do the parents tie in with the known Scottish branch?

Hi Detective,
I now have file number details for David,Jane & Annie for wills and probate.
I have Davids and Jane's Marriage index no as well as their death index no.
I know that all 3 are buried at Box Hill and have the plot no etc as well as their respective service day
I know that Annie died 24/6/1995 at Balwyn, She is listed as a Retired Accountant so ,as she is buried as Annie Isabel Ewart I do not think she was married.
So far I cannot find any reference to age when she died so l cannot get a clue to her birth year and cannot find her birth. I think the death date prevents me from getting access to details of her death.
While David and Jane's death details show me that they are the people I was looking for I have as yet been unable to find out when they respectively arrived in Australia.
Thanks for all the help you have given me.

Annie appeared in the ER in 1936, when I believe the age of majority was 21. If this age is incorrect, then hopefully someone will let us know.

On that basis, she must have been born by 1914/1915 to be eligible.
If the 1931 ER entry is correct, then we can push the yob 5 years earlier to 1909/1910.

Did Box Hill Cemetery withhold her age at death, or have you not contacted them?

Brian Report 21 Mar 2014 21:42

Hi ,
Box Hill Cemetery shows that in each case no DOB or DOD is inscribed and there is no Deed Holder information.
If Annie died in 1995 and her birth is about 1909/10 then she must have been in her mid 80's when she died. Just realized that as her parents did not marry until 1911 she would be illegitimate. It is therefore possible that she would be registered in her mother's name!!!. Will check this out later.
Have had to use temporary membership of Ancestry but tonight came up with a possible arrival for Jane. Arrival 8/8/1908 on the Drayton Grange ex Liverpool - with Scottish Nationality. Arrival Ports Adelaide,Melbourne and Sydney. A quick check on genes does not show this ship.
I have tried to look for David and the only thing that showed was an arrival listing for a Mr D. Ewart age estimated about 3 yrs earlier ex South Africa and English Nationality. I have not viewed it so far.

Re Ancestry - if you've had to leave credit card details and decide not to continue with the subscription after your 14 day trial, make sure you cancel a couple of days before the end of that. If you don't, you'll be charged!

The freephone number from the bottom of the home page (assuming you live in the UK) is 0800 404 9723.

Make sure you down-load or print off any relevant record images you find. Once your sub has expired you won't have access to them - the same applies to most FH sites, including GR.

The search for his immigration ought to be continued on your previous thread or else we'd only be repeating the same searches.

Brian Report 24 Mar 2014 22:05

Have spent the past couple of days trying to make sense of all the information.
With regard to the David Ewart who sailed 24/6/10 from London for Melbourne on the Otway I cannot find reference to him landing in Australia or Mention of the ship with any reference to a passenger with the name of Ewart or similar. Perhaps I am not looking things up correctly.
With regard to Annie Ewart also known as Nancy she as stated above first appeared on the ER in 1936 which would give her birth about 1914/15. I have tried every combination that I can think of and cannot find her birth records. I am beginning to wonder if she was "Adopted" or something like that. That would explain the lack of birth records !! I have found out that she was using the name Nancy Isabel Ewart on the ER of 1980 in Balwyn (where she died).
Would be glad of any thoughts or ideas.

Brian

Brian Report 24 Mar 2014 22:10

Further to the above the reference in the 1931 ER when one looks at the actual image refers to Annie Isabel EWERT not as listed Annie EWART and is therefore an incorrect association with the name of Annie Isabel Ewart.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 25 Mar 2014 15:22

Because of the Australian privacy laws, the birth of Annie Isobel Ewart *might* still be confidential.

Adoption is an alternative which should certainly be considered!

As much as we'd like a perfect paper trail. sometimes the records we seek are just not on line. They could have been misfiled, lost, or the name wrongly transcribed on the data base.
...........

This is the one which also lists a Jas Ewart, both he and David are Scottish. No ages given & both labourers

As there has been considerable discussion as to whether Jas (James) could have made the voyage, it really would be best to continue the travel research on the other thread.

Thanks for the above and I agree with what you say. The David Ewart listed on the Otway was shown as English and I was trying trace him to Australia and see if this had changed when he arrived and what age was shown. I could not find any trace of the Otway in 1910. It may be that the passenger list has got lost somehow. I even tried to find the landing of other people listed on David's page but with no success and no sign of the ship in 1910.
As far as the David and James you mention ex Liverpool I had found them landed in Australia and David with the age of 21.
With regards to Annie I had forgotten the confidentiality laws.
I think that it is time to be grateful for what has been found and call it a day.
At least I know that David did go to Australia, who he married and am able to make a connection to here for both him and his wife, know when they married, and died, where they are buried and that there was a Daughter, when she died and is buried. When one looks at this list it is quite extensive.
My thanks to all who have helped.
