Hello Edward,

At the moment I cannot give you any information on how you may be related to Hilda Riley - do you have certificates with information about her birth, marriage and death? Do you think you may have a Riley or a Beswick connection?

Information for Edward perhaps, but also other contributors to this thread - I have viewed the marriage certificate on microfilm today

On 6th June 1936 at St. Peter's Church, Oldham, Thomas Riley, 29, bachelor, cotton worker, abode 7 S. Peter St., father James Riley married Hilda Beswick, 21, spinster, card room hand, abode 7 S. Peter St., (father's name was struck through) The witnesses were John Chadwick and Gladys Cooper.

Oh, OK, thanks, Gwyn.

English certificates of death do not name the parents of adults.

There were two Hilda Beswick births registered in the relevant quarter, the Oldham one posted by MarieCeleste above, and also this one:

Births Mar 1915
BESWICK Hilda Edgar Warrington 8c 505

Hello Eddy - yes, you did confuse us!

This is a possible birth:

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name: Hilda Beswick
Mother's Maiden Name: Beswick
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1915
Registration district: Oldham
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 8d
Page: 1328

Note that because the mother's maiden name is also Beswick it implies her mother wasn't married. We're not going to be able to find a possible marriage to work back from so you might want to buy the birth certificate to find out who the mother was.

There's also a Hilda Beswick born to an apparently single mother in Chorley in 1914. That one's in a tree on Ancestry and I think it's safe to say that one's not yours as they give a different husband for her.

Thanks for your help, however I may have caused some confusion. the Hilda Riley I am seeking was Born Hilda Beswick, in the Oldham area in 1915. and Married Thomas Riley in 1936, she died in 1972. I am trying to find the link to myself.
regards Eddy

Beswick is an area of the city of Manchester, in North West England. Historically in Lancashire, it neighbours the district of Bradford to the east and the two areas are sometimes referred to as Bradford-with-Beswick

SO probably ...

Maybe you should start with her birth cert

I am trying to find a link between the above lady and myself, I know she was a distant relation and we visited her in Long lane, Chadderton , Oldham in the 1950s any info would be helpful.
