The MM was awarded for gallantry in action against the enemy, It may be worth looking at the relevant war dairies

I am trying to find out more information about this person who I have discovered in my family history. All I know about him, at present is that he was born in Ryhope (near Sunderland), County Durham in the second quarter of 1894 and he died in 1917. I have found the record of his death on Genes Reunited forces records and at the time of his death he was an Acting Corporal in the Durham Light Infantry.
