Find Ancestors

My great, great grandparents were John Tippett (Tippit) and Mary Ann Francis They were born in the 1830s. Him in Kea area and she in Devonshire. They had numerous children including my great grandfather Thomas Tippett before John died in 1870 in Kenwyn. In 1872 Mary Ann moved with her family to Burnley in Lancashire.
I have been unable to find their marriage date anywhere. and could do with some more ideas and help. I think they were married as it says so on all census returns and she calls herself a widow after John's death plus they were baptists!

If marriage was 1857 then this may be the scandal that older family members spoke about. She had had at lest 2/3 children before they married???
