Hi can anyone tell me where to find actual dates, ie not just the qtr in which the birth/seath/marrigae took place.
The reason for asking , is a friend is about to celebrate 60 years marriage this year 1914 in the july qtr. Would like to suprise them but need and exact date, and don't really want to ask them direct?
Don't want to buy certificate either

I'm afraid the only way to get the exact date is to buy the certificate - unless you can ask another member of the family who might know. I presume you mean 2014 and not 1914.

If you know where the marriage took place you might be able to go to the County Records Office for the area and look up the marriage there, although you would need to know which church the marriage took place at.

Yes i meant 2014
I know the area which is local here. Don't know the sons personally,
I thought tha may be the case, it's just that I notice on some replies thay give actual dates of birth etc.
i will try the local records.
Thanks
Or i could in a round about way ask then?? I think it was in july, so don't have much time!!

Sometimes when someone is looking for a birth they take the date from a recent death record for the person (although it is only as accurate as the informant's knowledge). For early marriages you may be able to find the parish records online, but I think for an event that took place in the the 50's then you would not find that information online.

You can actually order a presentation certificate if you wanted to make a gift of it but they are a bit pricey.

Surely you can find a way to get the date in the course of a conversation with these people, who you say are your friends.

There maybe an announcement in the local paper for the marriage 1954?
Copies at local library.

Do they have any children you could ask?

That's a good idea Thelma ;-)

Pauline, I have access to various newspapers - whereabouts in the UK are we looking at?

If you want to pm me the couples' details I would be happy to take a look to see if I can find anything. - No promises that I will though.

Also, I would follow Thelma's very good advice and see if you can find anything in the papers at the local library.

I would have thought that there may well be something in there at the time of thier Golden Wedding also - that usually warrants an announcement in the local paper.
