If the man fathered only two children , and he is your direct line, one of his children must also be your direct line. Which one?

It's a pity you've marked your thread as answered.
I know you didn't mean to - you thought you were saying that you had replied to me by PM, to say that you couldn't read the full message in the link above - neither can I.

Unfortunately, as the thread is now marked as "answered", people aren't likely to look at it any more, as they will assume you've got the answer to your original query.
There's no way to reverse that, but you could edit your thread title, to include "Not answered" or similar, in the hope that people will keep reading it.

How did you work back to him if you don't know whether he had descendants?

Ruth, are you aware that at that time Cartmel was in Lancashire, not Cumbria?

Do you have any more info on Peter? Have you looked for him in other trees on this site?
