Hi,

I have an ancestor called Dennison Lewis, his first name gets mis-transcribed a lot but he was born 1844 in Chester le Street, County Durham, he is in Durham Prison in 1861 (would love to find out why but can't find any Criminal Records for him either), he is on the 1891 Census as Donenson Lewis with his brother John Lewis and family, under the last tab on the Census it shows him as having a "deformation". Then he seems to disappear, if you can help, it would certainly be great for me.

His parents were John Lewis & Dorothy Enderwick.

Thanks in advance :-)

Ben

He is in 3 other trees in genes.
Have you contacted the tree owners for further information?

I have contacted others to no avail, they have the same problem. He seems just to disappear, I've trawled through prison records to no avail too in case he's in prison again in 1901/1911 Census records.

I have checked all records I can think of, just can't find any matches.

He's very elusive, I did look at the family on the 1841 Census to see where the name Dennison came from, I thought maybe it was a mother's maiden name etc, but you can't go back from Dennison's father John Lewis, 1814, Carmarthenshire as that is a dead end unfortunately.

I did see a few doors down from the Lewis family there were a family with the surname Dennison, it's a possibility they were good friends and he was named after them.

He is down as Davison & I do find it co-incidental there is a William Lewis lodging with Davison's on the '81 Census as above, but I have also found a christening for a Dennison Lewis in 1844 to John & Dorothy Lewis on the IGI so not sure where the William would have come from.

Thank you for researching, but I may have to conclude I am not going to find a death or criminal record for him.

Thanks again,

Ben.
